August 8, 2014 (4 Months)

Its hard to believe Alex is already 4 months old! Then again its hard to remember life without him! :) He is such a sweet, happy, quiet, snuggley baby.

Alex loves to stand up, his legs are still a bit wobbly but he locks his knees and looks at you with the proudest little smile on his face.

Alex still has one clogged tear duct on his left side and he is still battling a mild case of thrush. He also has a little stuffy/runny nose but none of that seems to be dampering his spirit.

Alex is starting to actually enjoy tummy time for small periods. His neck is getting strong so he can look up and around at all his toys.

If Alex is fussy, taking him outside always cheers him up! He loves to be outdoors sitting in his chair, going for a walk, swinging at the park.

Although it is a bit early we are questioning if Alex might be teething already, he is always trying to eat his fingers and see how far they can fit into his mouth.

Alex also enjoys bath time, it is another sure fire way to make him happy. Although he doesn't always love getting out of the bath.

Alex regulary takes a 2 hour morning nap, a 2 hour middle of the day nap, and a half hour late afternoon nap. He has been waking up usually 2 times to eat at night.

Alex struggles to take naps away from his crib and swaddle blanket. He used to nap on the go very easily but now he will barely even fall asleep in the car.

July 8, 2014 (3 Months)

Alex has discovered that he has hands, he watches them in awe as they flail in front of his face and he grips tightly to links and other toys.

Alex is not a huge fan of tummy time but he enjoys floor time on his back.

Alex recently started kicking his feet off of each other the way Andrew did when he was a baby.

Alex falls asleep easily when he is at home, we lay him down awake and swaddled and he looks around quitely for a while before drifting off to sleep, generally without making a peep. He usually wakes up quite happy.

Alex has a pretty regular schedule of a 2 2-3 hour naps in the morning and middle of the day and a shorter half hour or so late afternoon nap. He sleeps well most nights waking only once or twice to eat and then fall easily back to sleep.

Alex loves to go for stroller rides around the neighborhood.

Alex is still battling thrush, it has mostly cleared up but there are a couple stubborn small white spots on the inside of his cheek. Thankfully his diaper rash has cleared up so he has been sporting his awesome cloth diapers.

Alex is usually a content baby but tends to get fussy whenever Mommy is trying to eat so usually Daddy has to hold him while eating dinner.

June 9, 2014 (2 Months)

Alex is 2 months old! Wow how time flies when you have a 2 year old and 2 month old!

Over the past month Alex continued to be a rather sleepy baby. While he is awake for a couple hours at a time now he still takes long, solid naps. Most mornings he sleeps for a straight 3 hours while Andrew and Mommy go to the library, grocery store, park, or just play around the house.

Alex now likes getting his diaper changed. Not the actual changing the diaper part, but he enjoys laying on his changing table and giving Mommy sweet smiles.

Poor Alex has been battling thrush, a yeast infection in his mouth, and a possibly related diaper rash for the past couple weeks. Here's to naked butt time!

Alex likes his Nuk! He takes it well when he is fussing and it usually calms and soothes him. Sometimes he will wake crying and fall back to sleep instantly if given his nuk.

Alex is very calm but alert when in the bath tub.

Alex has clogged tear ducts which cause his eyes to be watery and gunky a lot of  the time. Sometimes he will wake up and his eyes will be crusted shut. He does not appreciate Mommy's efforts to clean them with a warm wash cloth.

Alex continues to get lots of love and attention from his big brother Andrew.

Alex like most babies loves to be held. He gets into moods where he will cry when put down and then be instantly happy when picked back up.

Alex travelled like a champ during our 5 hour car ride to visit family in Michigan. While in the car he slept most of the time and when awake he was mostly content and relaxed. Amazingly there was very little crying.

Welcome Baby Alex! May 8, 2014 (1 Month)

Introducing.....Alexander Daniel Meise

Alex was born on Tuesday, April 8 at 3:39am at Meriter Hospital. He was 6lbs 9oz, 19.5 inches long.

I began having contractions 10 minutes apart at 8pm. After my water broke at 10:30pm labor began progressing more quickly with strong contractions coming 5 minutes apart. I was already 5cm dilated upon arrival to the hospital and was ready to push by 3am. After half an hour of pushing, Alex's heart rate began to drop. After monitoring it for a couple minutes it was decided that we needed to use the vacuum to help him get out quickly and not risk his heart rate dropping any lower. So, with a little assistance Alex entered the world at 3:39am and Mommy and Daddy couldn't be happier!

We think he has his mommy's ears and his daddy's chin. He has some thin dark brown hair, dark blue eyes, and the cutest nose you ever saw.

Alex is a sleepy baby! The first couple weeks he would only wake up a couple times per day for brief periods up to half an hour. It's hard being born!

He has now settled into a general routine of being awake for 2-3 hours each morning and evening. Throughout the night and middle of the day he mostly sleeps but does wake up every 2-3 hours to nurse.

Alex hates having his diaper changed and usually cries loudly until it is over, often falling asleep the instant his clothes are back on.

At his 2 week checkup Alex had already gained a pound.

Alex's first holiday was Easter. On Easter Saturday we went to a couple local egg hunts during which he slept in the baby carrier. On Easter Sunday he found a basket from the Easter bunny with a stuffed animal lamb and sensory book about spring then we went to church and had lunch with family in Baraboo.

Alex doesn't mind tummy time and will lay there looking in his little mirror for up to 20 minutes. He doesn't always put much effort into lifting his head or doing pushups but his neck is getting noticeably stronger.

Alex sleeps swaddled in his bassinet at night. During the day he naps on mom, in his infant rocker or in his rock n play. He looks tiny in his crib.

Alex gets lots of attention from his big brother Andrew who likes to hold him, bring him toys, and lay by him during floor time.

It's hard to believe that Alex is already one month old! He is a realy sweet, snuggly, easy going baby who has fit seamlessly into our family. I am excited to watch him grow!
